About Us

“Lights ON” for Learning Community Learning Centers are partnerships forged among Rock Island County School Districts, the Regional Office of Education and community partners.  There are 23 “Lights ON” schools in the network and we are always looking for new schools to come to the table.  “Lights ON” began five years ago with a federal grant and now many of the schools are using state dollars or goodwill from their community partners to keep the programs operating.

“Lights ON” schools proudly hang their bright yellow banners
declaring them a school where community partners come in and offer programs and services to students, families and community members.

At the heart of the Lights ON Community School concept is a simple idea:  schools are not just place to teach children, but learning centers for the entire community because learning is lifelong.

Research has found that students attending Community Schools make significant gains in academic and non-academic achievement.  Parents demonstrate a greater sense of responsibility for their children’s learning success.  Community schools enjoy stronger parent-teacher relationships, increased teacher satisfaction, a more positive school environment and greater community support.  EVERYONE IS A WINNER WITH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS!!

Mission Statement
