Bright yellow banners hanging in many Rock Island County schools declaring them "Lights ON" Community Learning Centers. These banners mean the schools are working with community partners to offer extra programs and services to students, families and community members.

At the heart of the Lights ON Community School concept is a simple idea: schools are not just places to teach children, but learning centers for the entire community because learning is life long.

Research has found that students attending Community Schools make significant gains in academic and non-academic achievement.  Parents demonstrate a greater sense of responsibility for their children's learning success.  Community schools enjoy stronger parent-teacher relationshiops, increased teacher satisfaction, a more positive school environment and greater community support.
