#9628 Teaching Mathematics across Content Areas

Learn a wide array of innovative math lessons to enhance the student’s ability to transfer math techniques to other content areas.  Learn to help students develop various thinking strategies, tricks and tools to “buy in” on the concept of purposeful instruction to increase student achievement.  Learn to challenge and motivate your students in an interactive way.  This workshop will be a hands-on experience.  On Thursday teachers will participate in activities to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Friday’s session will help teachers explore Internet resources for activities, lesson plans and assessment. One grad credit is available through Aurora Univeristy at an additional cost of $100.  Day One time is 4:30 – 8:30 PM and Day two time is 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Now that so much has been said about how different Common Core State Standards Math will be, it is time to look more deeply into the content changes and the need to change instruction to help students learn with understanding, especially number sense and fractions.  The practice standards will be examined to help create the vision of a new look for teaching.  Learn some strategies for enhancing better classroom discussion and engaging students in understanding how and why math works the way it does.

#9635 Hands-On Math Workshop

Welcome to the home of games, graphs and educational goodies.  This is a workshop of mathematical munchies – ideas into which children can sink their teeth.  Many instructional aids, which emphasize thinking, will be demonstrated and experienced along with a series of mathematical learning games.  The instructional aides used in this workshop can be assembled by the teacher or student and will increase interest and participation.  The class will include “hands-on” computer experience as participating teachers explore internet sources for web quests, scavenger hunts, lesson plans and PowerPoint’s for teaching math.  One grade credit is available at an additional cost of $100 through Aurora University due on the first day of class.
